John Seaton Callahan is one of the most widely published surfing photographers in the world today, serving the pick of the estimated 60+ surf magazines around the world, as well as numerous travel and lifestyle publications in Europe, Asia, and North America.
John attended UCLA in Los Angeles from 1983-87, where he completed a BA in Design at the College of Fine Arts. Having gained the necessary technical skills and in possession of a vast surfing knowledge from his upbriging in Hawaii, Callahan took the plunge into full-time professional photography in 1988.
His early work on publication retainer took him to every known corner of the surfing universe - Tahiti, Hawaii, Morocco, Costa Rica, South Africa, Maldives, Réunion, Mauritius, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Brazil and Indonesia to name a few. However, it has been his more recent ventures as a freelance producer and photographer into unexplored waters that has made the "© Callahan" an internationally acclaimed by-line.
Groundbreaking trips over the last decade include Mindanao, Samar, and Siargao islands in the Philippines, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India, the Mergui Archipelago and Rahkine coastline of Myanmar (ex Burma), several unnamed islands adrift off the Sumatran coast of Indonesia, the restricted southern atolls of Maldives, Andra Pradesh in mainland India, São Tomé & Principé in Central Africa, and the perilous coast of Angola in August 2003, with veteran surf adventurer Randy Rarick.
