More About Pandas
Pandas are first mentioned in Chinese books written 2,500 years ago, but they weren't seen by a European until 1869. In 1936, Su-Lin at the Chicago Zoo was the first living panda to be brought out of China.
The panda's full name is Giant Panda. Their scientific name is Ailuropoda melanoleuca.
Pandas are related to bears, but they are classified in their own group.
There used to be some confusion about how to classify pandas because they have some features in common with a completely different animal called a Red Panda (also called a Lesser Panda) which is related to the raccoons. Red pandas were discovered by Europeans 48 years before the Giant panda. The word "panda" comes from the Nepalese name for the red panda, nigalya ponya, which means "bamboo eater."
Pandas have the digestive system of a carnivore (meat eater), but they eat a mostly vegetarian diet.
Pandas' primary food is bamboo, but since their digestive systems can absorb only a little of the nutrition, they have to eat over 30 pounds a day.
Pandas like the taste of young bamboo sprouts which have even less nutrition. If they eat only these, they must eat over 80 pounds a day.
Pandas spend 16-24 hours a day eating and the remainder resting.
Pandas eat sitting up and have a sixth finger on their front paws that they use as a thumb for holding food.
Pandas make a sound like a sheep bleating, but they can make 11 different sounds for different situations.
The purpose of the pandas' black eye patches may be to make their eyes look bigger and scarier to other animals.
Pandas' fur is slightly oily to make it waterproof.
Each panda lives alone. Male and female pandas get together only for mating and then separate after a day or two.
Pandas keep track of other pandas by scent marking trees.
If a female panda gives birth to two babies, she is able to take care of only one of them.
Adult pandas are 5-6 feet long and weigh 165-242 pounds.
Pandas live for about thirty years in captivity. Their only natural enemies are humans.
Pandas are very endangered because of the destruction of their environment and hunting by poachers for their fur.
For a long time, it was believed that there were fewer than 1000 pandas in the world, but a new survey in 2004 indicated that there may be as many as 1600. Only about 16 of these are outside China.

 Lin Wei Ru 林葦茹 (Ruru Lin) is one of the top models in Taiwan. Born in Taiwan, she started modeling after graduating from Jinwen University. At 1.8m tall, she is a popular model in the catwalk circuit and as a lingerie model. She has recently moved to hosting and acting on television. 
Honey Lee Ha-Nui 이하늬, 24, is the third runner-up at the 2007 Miss Universe beauty pageant in Mexico. Her father is a high ranking Korean National Intelligence Service officer. Her mother, a professor at Ewha Women’s University, was designated a “living cultural asset” in the field of gayageum (12-string Korean traditional instrument) music. Honey Lee, like her mother, is also a professional gayageum player, and was named a gayageum prodigy by the Kumho Art Center.
Chinese model 张雪 Zhang Xue is touted to be the model to watch. Blessed with a 1.8m model’s body and an international look, she is well liked by the modeling industry and has graced the covers of many magazines in China.  Born in Brazil and raised in Tokyo, Japanese-Brazilian Akemi Katsuki 樂明美 clinched a Wacoal endorsement deal when she was 15 years old. She moved to Hong Kong to further pursue her modeling career and was spotted by Taiwan agency EMS International. Now at 20 and based in Taiwan, she is dubbed as the hottest pin-up girl in Taiwan after supermodel Lin Chi Ling.   Jun Ji-hyun began her career as a model after graduating from the Department of Theater and Film at Dongguk University. She landed her first movie role in 1999. Audiences started noticing her in Il Mare (remade by Hollywood as The Lake House), but it was 2001’s My Sassy Girl that won her the Best Actress award at the Daejong Film Festival in 2002 and catapulted her into international stardom. Jun Ji-hyun will be seen as Saya, the lead character in the live action version of Blood: The Last Vampire, which is slated for a Spring 2008 release in the US. 
Chinese Model Lynn Xiong (熊黛林), has an oriental face that many in China consider perfect. She is rumoured to be Aaron Kwok’s current squeeze.  
At 20, Aya Hirano 平野綾 is probably every otaku’s favourite Seiyuu and J-pop singer. Her big break came in 2006 when she was cast as the voice of the title character in the immensely popular The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which bagged her a Best Newcomer award at the first Seiyū Awards. Her CD single Bōken Desho Desho? containing the opening song of the show also sold out in Japan on the first day of released. Her popularity was confirmed when she successfully released her first photo book “Stairway to 20”. Aya Hirano has just released her second photo book “1/19 Bmp“. Her latest single “Love★Gun” (a typical Aya punk/rock number) was released recently while two other singles will be released before the end of the year. | | Me and my niece playing with my Nokia phone's camera. She's turning 10 this November 2006. I remember the first time I saw her, still red, in the hospital bed. In fact, she was sleeping in the incubator, being treated for jaundice. The nurse covered her eyes with a piece of clothe. She looks tiny, so tiny... but yet when she started to cry... she can make noise like a microphone is near her tiny mouth!
I saw my sis, sat on the hospital bed, still in her hospital gown, blood stained her bed... but she's doing fine. My brother-in-law were busy with the traveling from house to his work place to visiting his wife and daughter in the hospital. He looked rather exhausted.
And now, look at the little baby girl. Grown up into a very inquisitive lass. She questions almost everything she found odd. Not everyone of us can stand her 'non-stop' questioning. My twin sister gets irritated by her easily when she asked too much..
But I love her, I love her always... Like my own.
